What We Can Achieve Together

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) understands the critical role of investments, corporate practices, and markets in solving the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. The Conservancy has established the Impact Finance & Markets division to shape direction of investment, corporate practices, and markets around the world. The Agriculture Innovation Strategy Manager is part of the Corporate Engagement team within the Impact Finance & Markets Division and reports to the Director of Agriculture Innovation.

The Agriculture Innovation Strategy Manager supports the development, implementation, and active management of efforts to foster innovative new technologies and business models with a high potential to advance TNC’s conservation goals. This work is in service to TNC’s Global Food and Water strategies. The Strategy manager will engage with key TNC staff, investment funds, investors, early stage and corporate agribusiness companies, research organizations and other NGOs to execute and deliver results. They work closely with TNC staff and their robust ecosystem knowledge at the global, regional, and operating unit level to identify opportunities where innovation can drive mission results and to connect emerging technologies to our programmatic work.

They advise on active strategy management and capacity building. They develop key topical expertise beyond general strategy and are expected to become an expert that supports cross-functional or cross-boundary strategy development and management. The Strategy Manager advises the Director on issues that should be more effectively coordinated across portfolio including new strategies. They work to develop a dotted line network of strategy advisors in the field through active collaboration.

This position is based remotely throughout the United States. The pay range is $110K-$140k, depending on location and experience. Please note, TNC bases compensation on a person's geographic location and experience.

  • Work with TNC program leads to identify and execute on opportunities where technology and innovation have the potential to create large scale industry change in support of our conservation goals.
  • Establish and lead internal TNC agriculture technology resource group to review emerging technologies and applications including appropriate regional science staff.
  • Engage with partners including early stage and corporate companies, investment funds and other NGOs to identify opportunities where TNC can add value and test innovative new approaches to achieve TNC’s conservation goals.
  • Designs, implements and directs complex and diverse projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
  • Makes strategic decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.
  • Incorporates cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
  • Coordinates the work of other professionals, inside and outside of the organization.
  • Significant latitude to deal directly with field management personnel and organizational leadership.
  • Ability to contribute to Agriculture Innovation Strategy Team management decisions.
  • Requires willingness and ability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally.

What You'll Bring

  • BA/BS degree and 7 years of experience in farming, agribusiness, agriculture technology, agriculture technology investment and/or system design and management.
  • Experience with emerging agriculture technologies and new business models.
  • Experience with new product development and/or investment to commercialize new technologies and innovations.
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects and strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills experience.
