POSITION SUMMARY 

The Communications & Market Engagement Director is an integral part of the 3N  team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about  ecological and social issues to help develop and oversee a proactive, effective,  and inspiring communications and media plan and platform that engages key  audiences in innovative and systems-oriented ways. You will carry out creative  marketing and communications assignments to build awareness about our  initiatives, investments, and impact for various audiences. You will also provide  support to the 3N platform and fund-level vehicles in building communications  materials such as pitch decks, impact reports, website content, monthly  newsletters, and investor updates. You will also closely support our efforts that  lift up the key voices of our portfolio company entrepreneurs and other key  partners.  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and execute communications and marketing initiatives and  assignments in support of the 3N team and organization. 
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of 3N’s theory of change and investment  thesis and develop strategies on how to effectively communicate these  messages across various channels. 
  • Translate 3N’s complex initiatives and work into compelling, persuasive,  and testimonial stories and messages that can be used externally with  diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to produce and/or update content in all  externally facing communications, including key materials, investment  memo summaries, investor updates and reports, portfolio company profiles  and interviews, newsletters, proposals and press materials etc. 
  • Identify, research, and develop potential story opportunities for social  media, printed articles, press releases, earned media, news outlets, as well  as conferences and events. 
  • Support the general writing and editing of articles, blogs, reports,  proposals, speaking submissions, and press materials for the founder and  investment team. 
  • Work with our insight advisory committee members to develop clear and  compelling case statements for investment and impact priorities.
  • Ensure that all written communications and marketing materials have  brand consistency, consistent language, use correct syntax, and are free of  spelling or grammatical errors. 
  • Identify and implement systems and processes to manage, engage, and  track engagement with key community stakeholders.

Lead the market engagement vision. You strategically manage and lead our  external marketplace voice and engagement efforts. Create and collaborate  on new types of content and ideas. Develop a roadmap to amplify 3N’s  thought leadership and updates along with profiling the leadership of our  fund-level and company-level investments.  

Build and manage the communications strategy. You own the planning and  management of the range of communications vehicles for 3N. Oversee and 

support proofreading and edit copy that maintains a compelling and consistent  “Third Nature Voice” in the market. 

Lead the effective execution of the 3N market engagement strategy. Support  and maintain effective processes internally that are collaborative and track  towards the vision for 3N’s voice and thought leadership goals. 

Collaborate effectively with the community. Plan, lead, support and execute  3N’s community engagement strategy which focuses on creating meaningful  connections and partnerships for and among portfolio companies to help  amplify founders and emerging funds and to enhance the 3N brand and voice. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, sustainability, or related  field required. 
  • 6+ years of overall work experience including 4+ years of experience  developing marketing and communications, media strategies, managing  execution, and measuring results. 
  • Knowledge of or experience working on environment, climate, finance,  food/ag, and/or sustainability or environmental issues. 
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills - skilled at developing straight  forward, clear, and persuasive content; writing samples required for  candidates. 
  • Experience with producing content and messaging that resonates with a  range of audiences including the business and/or investment communities.
  • Demonstrated experience writing story-driven content about complex  technical subjects and projects in a variety of formats (e.g., newsletters,  success stories, news stories, op-eds/blogs, videos, podcasts, one-pagers  and presentation decks). 
  • Deep expertise in developing and nurturing online communities through  adept social media and digital engagement strategies Strong working  knowledge leveraging of key popular social media outlets (e.g., LinkedIn,  YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and communications software. 
  • Passionate, results-driven, highly organized, with an attention to detail. A  self-starter who can work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and  manage production schedules effectively.
  • Courteous, tactful, and professional, with a proven ability to work  effectively with others. Ability to work under general supervision and take  initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction. 
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and initiative to learn  new subjects and skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS 

This position is remote with some travel expected to NYC/DC/Philadelphia area  and other potential locations as needed. Depending on geographic location, this  position can be expected to travel up to 20% of work time.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Communications and Market Engagement (60%) 

o Work collaboratively to develop, execute, and adapt narrative and  communications and thought leadership strategy, utilizing the full  range of activities, tools, platforms, and partnerships. 

  • Strategy (20%) 

o Hold or engage subject matter expertise in storytelling, creative  development, campaigns, movement building, networks. 

o Write strategic and creative briefs which define success metrics,  scope, timeline, and process for work plan to execute strategy. 

  • Partnerships (20%) 

o Build and manage strategic relationships with portfolio companies,  journalists, outlets and key partners to expand the brand awareness  and market engagement of 3N.
