This role will be based in our Washington, D.C. office. The salary range for this position is $150-190k/year, with bonus potential.

About BSP

With offices in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. BSP is a nimble, bipartisan firm with unique expertise in technology innovation, finance, government, legislative strategy, and policy. We help our clients see around corners to anticipate and adjust to rapidly evolving political, legislative, and regulatory landscapes. Our firm provides government affairs, policy analysis, direct lobbying, coalition management, business development, and communications planning for over 80 clients including top energy and mobility companies, leading industry coalitions, major policy think-tanks, and some of the largest investment firms in the world.

About The Role

The Vice President will play a vital role in BSP’s robust solar practice focusing on our clients’ efforts to reshore the solar supply chain. The BSP solar practice secured historic wins for American solar manufacturing on behalf of its clients within the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). We are looking to build on those efforts as we focus on IRA implementation, as well as identify a whole-of-government approach to support efforts to build out the solar value chain in the United States. While the position will work primarily with our solar industry clients, they will also be expected to collaborate and work with other clean energy clients. At BSP, VPs lead client engagement, strategy development, and government affairs execution for leading clean energy and climate tech companies, non-profits, trade associations, and financial institutions. Core responsibilities and competencies include:

  • Running Client Engagements. In close consultation with managing Partners and/or a Senior Vice President, this VP will have a central role across multiple BSP solar clients, including serving as a principal point-of-contact for several clients, leveraging their expertise to make strategic decisions to position the client for legislative, regulatory, and political success with little to no supervision, and serving as a primary source of expert advice and project management for BSP engagement with the clients.

  • Generating Great Content and Managing Projects. The VP will lead the development of memos, policy, and legislative analysis, talking points, legislative or regulatory comments, and other content as needed to support client goals. This includes directly drafting written material in a timely manner for review by Partners and/or a SVP, as well as working with other staff to develop content. The VP will also be expected to develop work plans and ensure client deliverables are being met, in addition to directly managing client interactions and working closely with their legal, policy, and business teams, as needed.

  • External Relationships and Political Intelligence. The VP will be expected to cultivate relationships and directly lobby key policymakers and their staff in Congress, and administration officials. The VP will be responsible for preparing clients for congressional and/or agency hearings, meetings, briefings, rulemakings, and other federal legislative and regulatory proceedings. The VP will be able to function independently in high-level meetings and conversations; speak publicly on behalf of BSP or clients without close supervision.

  • Collaborative Development and Management. The VP is expected to manage staff at the Director, Manager, Associate, and Intern levels to create documents, memos, slide decks, and other work products for clients and proactively flag and synthesize policy developments and political intelligence for clients. The VP may also serve as a manager and mentor to Directors, Managers, Associates, and Interns and will be expected to provide feedback and guidance on their development as BSP team members.

  • Business Development: Manage client relationships from proposal generation through execution of government affairs strategy and become a go-to-trusted resource for clients
  • Demonstrate good instincts for discussing clients’ policy positions across substantive areas; responds effectively to questions or arguments in any area
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of public policy and industry developments affecting clients within and outside of areas of responsibility and proactively flags such developments as relevant for BSP teams or clients.
