gener8tor is a nationally recognized startup accelerator as well as entrepreneurial support organization and is seeking a Managing Director (MD) to lead our sustainability accelerators. The MD will oversee several programs per year (investing $100,000 each into five startups per program) focused on early-stage climate tech startups.

As the Managing Director of Sustainability, you will be responsible for recruiting, selecting, and investing in the most promising early-stage climate tech startups in energy, food/land use, transportation, carbon and industry, while building relationships with ecosystem partners to strengthen the support system for your portfolio. You will also support the Senior Managing Director of Sustainability in raising a new fund specifically to invest in early-stage climate tech startups, building on the success of the portfolio so far. 

Success for a Managing Director of Sustainability looks like building a strong portfolio of early-stage climate tech startups, driving impact in the climate tech space, and raising a new fund to support the best and brightest entrepreneurs. You will develop relationships with a personally curated group of mentors and investors to engage with the founders and you'll bend over backwards to ensure the startups are set up for success. You will have ownership over the program and will report to the Senior Managing Director of Sustainability while collaborating across the organization with gener8tor's centralized support teams.

Responsibilities

• Recruit startup applicants and lead the due diligence and selection process for several gener8tor Sustainability Investment Accelerator cohorts.
• Find and develop relationships with mentors, investors, and others who can help support the programs and participating companies, including leading the effort to raise a new fund specifically to invest in early-stage climate tech startups.
• Plan logistics, engage with the network, execute the accelerator programs and other related activities.
• Act as the lead mentor, cheerleader and point of contact for investments before, during and after the program. This includes continuously monitoring and updating progress for each startup post-program and supporting in the decision to make any follow on investments.
• Build relationships with ecosystem partners and engage in the broader climate tech startup communities. Think of yourself as the unofficial “Startup Mayor” of climate tech!
• Coordinate and collaborate with gener8tor staff and external program partners.
• Provide reporting for and manage elements of account management with external program partners, if necessary.
• Collaborate with other members of the gener8tor team to support our national programs.
• Assist alumni with ongoing mentor, sponsor and investor relations following the program.
• Be the #1 cheerleader for the climate tech startup ecosystems and the startups and entrepreneurs we work with.

Requirements

• Entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter. Experience as a founder, employee in a venture-backed company or in venture capital required. 
• Total devotion to the climate tech startup ecosystem.
• Collaborative, team-based mindset. You will be working closely with other Managing Directors, founders, external program partners, and ecosystem stakeholders. You may be asked to support programs other than the Sustainability programs. You are expected to run no more than three programs per year and support in the overall sustainability fund you will help raise. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly independent environment and juggle multiple ongoing projects, responsibilities and external relationships.
• Willingness to intensively and rapidly dive deeper into the startup and venture capital communities even if already familiar. 
• Flexibility to travel up to 25%, work some nights and weekends.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A “no job is beneath me” mentality.
• Commitment to equity across race, place and gender.
