As funding climate tech picks up pace, we’re leveling up. We’re looking for a full-time Data Engineer who will broaden and deepen our market coverage. This hybrid Data Engineer / Data Scientist role be responsible for strengthening our data foundation — with database design and building the infrastructure. The role will also involve elements of text analysis including scraping and classification. The relational data created is the heart of the product, which will be used by investors and corporates to deploy capital in the shift to net zero.
The Role
- Infrastructure — Build and maintain a central database. This will include database design and building the infrastructure.
- Collection — Build web scrapers to track relevant datasets. This could include, but is not limited to news headlines and company announcements.
- Processing — Work with the founders to develop an effective data management process: automating manual processes where possible, data cleaning and QA procedures, and collecting data from manual processes including from third-parties.
- Visualization — Develop methodologies to classify data for use and display on the CTVC platform. This could include NLP or other data classification techniques.
The Essentials
- 3-5 years of work experience with ETL, Data Modeling, and Data Architecture.
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres.
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
- Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift
- Desire to thrive in an early-stage startup environment
A Plus
- Experience automating data collection from press releases and other public sources
- Experience with text scraping and parsing tools like Beautiful Soup
- Experience with ML, NLP, or other data modeling techniques
- Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
- Experience with Airtable
- Experience with software engineering, including React or other webapp libraries
- Working understanding of climate tech sectors
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
- A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from datasets
