GENERATION GROWTH EQUITY – PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

The Team

Generation’s Growth Equity strategy is just starting to invest out of its fourth fund (“SSF IV” $1.7 billion of committed capital).  It currently has 8 remaining investments in its second fund and 15 investments in its third fund. Over the next few years we anticipate that the Portfolio Committee (“PC”) will have oversight of 30+ portfolio companies across these three active funds.

The management and oversight of the portfolio is evolving.  A dedicated PC was formed about three years ago and has a standing quarterly meeting with additional ad hoc meetings as required.  We are currently under way to deploy a portfolio monitoring tool called Chronograph, to be used in conjunction with Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI for portfolio monitoring and reporting.

As part of the continuing improvement of the PC monitoring processes we have decided to recruit an associate to play a central role in portfolio management.  The new hire will contribute to driving better portfolio analysis and decision-making and hence help to drive improved overall fund performance.  This person will have the opportunity to make portfolio monitoring a more strategic and value added activity for the Growth platform.

The Role

Portfolio Analytics

  • Run portfolio company analytics and fund analysis for PC
  • Lead project to onboard financial and ESG portfolio metrics onto Chronograph, and make it a strategic source of insights on portfolio analytics, and thus supporting better investment decisions
  • Run portfolio metrics / statistics / analysis that are relevant to clients (e.g. pipeline snapshots quarterly, roadmap analytics, other characteristics)
  • Track and summarize all value creation activities taking place across the portfolio

Reporting and Valuations

  • Streamline quarterly client reporting process across all funds, working directly with Generation Control, Client and our portfolio companies, providing relevant portfolio analytics and commentary
  • Assist with Investor Letters and re-vamp the statistics and data that we are providing on a quarterly basis
  • Coordinate and control all quarterly valuation analysis preparation, and portfolio analytics, in collaboration with the Generation Control function
  • Lead provision of portfolio analytics in material for significant client interactions (LPAC, Global Client Conference, etc.)

Reporting line

The new hire will report to the Chair of the PC but will also work closely with other key functions at Generation including the Client, Control and Finance teams.  The person will be deeply embedded in the Growth team and will be exposed to all of the deal team members as they evaluate potential new additions to the portfolio and work on potential liquidity opportunities, as well as with selected portfolio companies’ financial management.

Key attributes and background

The new hire will have the following key attributes:

  • Outstanding financial analytical skills
  • Passion for leading fundamental analysis that drives key insights
  • Good oral and written presentation capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Relationship building skills

This role will suit someone who is a self-starter who can demonstrate both creativity and initiative. Ideal profile is someone with 3-5 years of experience and has a background in investment banking, financial advisory or consulting, or corporate finance.

We highly value life-experience, and differentiated perspectives, from all backgrounds.
