The Enterprise Environmental Sustainability Team at The Walt Disney Company stewards the Company’s progress towards its ambitious 2030 Environmental Goals focused on emissions, water, waste, materials, and sustainable design. The team actively partners with key corporate functions and business segments to set sustainability goals, influences implementation of sustainability goals, and leads external reporting of progress against goals. As aggregators of Enterprise-wide environmental performance data and initiative inventories, the team has a big-picture oversight role for all company efforts driving progress towards the goals.
The Senior Manager role will focus on developing and executing strategies to meet The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) Scope 3 emissions reduction targets. This includes driving a range of scope 3 initiatives; partnering with sourcing and consumer products teams to engage suppliers in measuring and reducing their emissions, as well as ensuring accurate accounting of scope 3 and other sustainable supply chain efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as main point of contact and scope 3 subject matter expert for teams across the organization, provide management and leadership for a small team of highly proficient environmental professionals
- Build consensus, manage relationships, and gain alignment with teams and leaders across the organization
- Prepare and present updates to senior leaders focused on scope 3
- Contribute to internal and external reporting and communications on scope 3 and sustainable supply chain program progress
- Partner closely with global sourcing and procurement, product design, licensing, food & beverage, and other key groups to develop de-carbonization and supplier engagement roadmaps
- Partner with segment groups to develop and execute value chain emissions reduction strategies, both short-term and long-term, including financial planning for achieving reductions
- Provide input to enable environmental supplier engagement and intervention strategies
- Partner with segment groups to develop interim targets and metrics to track progress against planned supplier emission reductions
- Oversee annual Scope 3 data inventory, including creating improvements for data gathering, reporting, and moving further towards activity specific data sources
- Oversee development of robust, scalable processes to collect and analyze supplier emissions data, supplier targets, roadmaps, supplier-specific emissions factors, and progress
- Keep abreast of emerging methodologies and best practices including by engaging peer groups or industry associations on the latest scope 3 approaches and reduction strategies
- Collaborate with relevant groups to identify overlaps with other 2030 goal areas, and contribute to management of the overlaps
- Develop broader sustainable supply chain approaches and strive to seek solutions that deliver on multiple environmental and economic benefits
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience on sustainable supply chain matters within a company, government agency or environmental non-governmental organization (ENGO)
- 3+ years’ experience with scope 3 emissions quantification and reduction planning
- 2+ years of team management experience including task assignment, management, and professional development of team members
- Deep knowledge of GHG Protocol Value Chain Standard & Technical Guidance
- Knowledge of supply chain processes and stakeholder engagement on scope 3
- Expertise in scope 3 accounting, scope 3 target setting, scope 3 roadmap development, and supplier engagement on scope 3 emission reduction
- Deep expertise in and comfort with complex quantitative data
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong communications and presentation skills with demonstrable comfort interacting with all levels of management and communicating complex data to non-subject matter experts
- Proven project management skills with demonstrated experience to self-manage complex delivery in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
Required Education
- Bachelors or higher degree in environmental science, environmental sustainability, supply chain, procurement, or related fields
The hiring range for this position in California is $134,972 to $181,060 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
