Carbon Calories is currently going through Forum VC's accelerator and fundraising this May-Jul.
Founding Engineer
Carbon Calories is looking for a seasoned and ambitious full stack engineer to join our founding team as employee number one: to build the QuickBooks SaaS of carbon emission accounting. Must be well-versed in both backend and frontend languages.
The Impact You’ll Have
Carbon Calories’ mission is to democratize carbon accounting and accelerate decarbonization. We want to use stellar UX/UI to make carbon accounting accessible to every small business and start-up that wants to actively innovate and decarbonize their activities. All companies and freelancers need accessible and economical SaaS tools to measure, benchmark and track the carbon-intensity of their business activities.
Currently, 95% of businesses can’t afford and/or don’t have the tools to perform carbon accounting. Meanwhile, globally, we have ten years to halve human-caused carbon emissions for a chance of capping warming at 1.5 or 1.75 degrees Celsius. As our slogan puts it: What gets measured gets mitigated™. If mitigating severe climate disruptions is important to you: we would love to speak with you about joining our company as our co-founding full stack developer.
Carbon accounting needs to become as commonplace as financial accounting and ten times easier for businesses to adopt and integrate. We have the expertise to guide you to build advanced back-end carbon ledgers, engines and algorithms that will become the global benchmark for carbon accounting. We have the vision to understand that carbon accounting, fundamentally, is a UX/UI challenge if businesses are going to integrate this practice into their workflow. We need you to architect and build this vision based on our frameworks and proprietary models.
If you want to bring our revolutionary SaaS vision – think the FreshBooks/QuickBooks of carbon accounting for both product- and enterprise-level accounting and reporting – to life: then Carbon Calories is for you. If you’re disenchanted with the status quo, are skeptical about the use of carbon offsets and net-zero claims and want to support transparent disclosure as the only antidote to greenwashing: then you belong at Carbon Calories.
We are bootstrapped, have paying/returning clients, are currently going through Forum Ventures exclusively SaaS-focused accelerator and will start fundraising this coming May. You can read more about our work for brands in Forbes, Glossy, Vogue, DotCom (Spotify), REV Talks, and Metta’s Climate Talks.
The Team You’ll Form
You'll be working directly with Alexander Frantzen using his proprietary models as well as world-class expertise from Columbia University; and you will manage a team of developers, including third-party contractors, out of New York or remotely.
Carbon Calories started as a simple yet radical idea in 2017 when then the name and reporting framework were developed and trademarked. Alexander founded and started developing the vision in 2020, including preparing a provisional patent filing, two months before Covid. We’re currently going through Forum Ventures accelerator program for SaaS startups.
Our branding was borne during lockdown, continents apart, between three friends passionate about mitigating severe climate disruptions. Currently, we rely on Alexander’s expertise, channel partners and contractors to serve existing clients.
We are no-nonsense, straight-forward, respectful, empathic and committed to objective, empirical truth. We expect all employees to act with self-awareness, complete honesty and integrity. We want to produce and deliver meticulously innovative product and develop our personal character in the process.
