Achieving net-zero carbon emissions is one of the most important challenges facing our world and vehicle electrification is an important pathway toward decarbonizing transportation. However, there are challenges beyond cars, such as creating a carbon free electrical grid, tackling trucking and shipping, and abating steel production. Faced with these challenges, how can Toyota truly get to net zero? What comprehensive strategies will we need? How do we work across industries? What are the most impactful things we can do today while we plan for future technologies? These are questions we need to continually answer over the coming decades.

 

We are looking for someone who can work across the critical areas of technology, economics, policy, and society in order to help evaluate and continuously evolve Toyota’s long-term carbon neutral strategy. You will:

 

- Provide timely and responsive analysis for Toyota leadership on key issues at the intersection of energy, climate, and transportation.

- Manage and conduct systems modeling analysis for decarbonization pathways, considering techno-economic and policy factors; coordinating with other researchers in Toyota group.

- Compile and maintain benchmark data on industry-wide carbon neutral efforts such as competitor’s committed goals, technical developments and metrics, public announcements, and government mandates and incentives.

- Facilitate workshops and discussions to enhance knowledge sharing and strategic development (e.g. hydrogen, battery recycling, etc.)

- Produce internal/external communication assets for the latest decarbonization technology developments in academia and industry.

 

We encourage you to join a creative team of scientists and engineers dedicated to enabling a sustainable future. You will be part of the Energy and Materials (E&M) division which is accelerating Toyota’s path to carbon neutrality. There are several areas of emphasis in the division including accelerating the discovery of new energy materials, using data-driven approaches to optimize battery manufacturing, and providing strategic analysis on carbon neutral pathways and technologies. We collaborate with colleagues from other teams at TRI with backgrounds in robotics, behavioral science, and computer science. We all grow working alongside other inspiring people and learning new skills together.
