WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Investment Operations Manager is a member of The Nature Conservancy’s Office of Investments team. The Investment Operations Manager will be responsible for a full range of monitoring, analysis, and reporting functions for a complex, multi-asset-class portfolio. The Office of Investments team mission is to support the funding of TNC’s global conservation priorities by increasing the organization’s purchasing power through prudent and sustainable investment management. The Office of Investments team, under the leadership of TNC’s Chief Investment Officer, works on all aspects of the management and monitoring of the endowment and other long-term pools of capital in excess of $4B. The Nature Conservancy’s investment assets are used to support TNC’s global operations and most pressing conservation projects. The Investment Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of investment operations tasks supporting the overall efforts of the investment office. Responsibilities include investment manager operational due diligence, generating monthly performance and valuation reports, short term cash management, and managing the front to back operations projects regarding existing and prospective investment managers.  In addition, the Investment Operations Manager will perform monthly reconciliations, assist with TNC’s annual audit, and work in depth with TNC’s custodian bank and portfolio management system (Backstop).


Working alongside the Director of Investment Administration, daily responsibilities involve supporting the operational activities of a multi-billion-dollar investment portfolio invested globally across a broad range of strategies including public equity, hedged strategies, private investments and fixed income. This role is heavily involved in the Office of Investments data management. The Investment Operations Manager will review current processes and suggest new ideas in order to improve team efficiency. They will communicate on behalf of the OOI and will have substantial contact with stakeholders, including all levels of staff, third-party investment managers, consultants, advisors and service providers. They will take on additional duties to enhance the work of the team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
•    Manage the investment operations activities of a global, multi-asset class portfolio. 
•    Oversee portfolio performance reporting and attribution, including performance analytics, exposures, and benchmarks. 
•    Assist with operational due diligence, compliance, and budgeting. 
•    Manage the execution of cash management, investments, account openings, capital calls, rebalancing, corporate actions, vendor notifications, and similar duties.
•    Perform reconciliation of transactions, valuations and investment returns with investment managers, custodian bank, and portfolio management system.
•    Complete performance and market value updates and track other quantitative and qualitative data fields for investments.
•    Assume ownership and accountability of the collection, interpretation, entry, and quality control of investment data. Maintain managers and funds files and information; process and monitor investments documentation and activities.
•    Support audit and tax related tasks by providing information to the auditor and tax teams. 
•    Serve as the primary Office of Investments contact for TNC Accounting, Tax, and Treasury departments. 
•    Manage other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Investment Administration and the Director of Investments.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

•    Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
•    Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
•    Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
•    Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Knowledgeable about investments. Passionate about investment operations, data analysis and documentation.
•    Experience with Backstop Solutions (or other Portfolio Management Systems). 
•    Ability to manage project timelines with several variables, set realistic deadlines, and ensure accountability.
•    Very process oriented.
•    Strong organization skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
•    Experience in performance reporting, financial reporting, or portfolio accounting.
•    A collegial work style and a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks.
•    Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and being a self-starter.
•    Excellent problem-solving, analytic and quantitative skills.
•    Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    CPA may be preferred.
