Working with our Co-founder and Chief Development Officer you'll be leveraging your financial modeling and energy industry skills in a fast-moving, demanding role right at the heart of some amazing, industry-changing energy initiatives on the West Coast.  This is a great role for someone looking to learn new development skills and be mentored by an industry thought leader, whilst playing a key role at a fast-growing PE-backed business. You will be based in our Santa Barbara office 2-3 days a week and will be expected to travel to sites within the region as needed. 

Key responsibilities will include:

• Provide critical research and analysis to back innovative distributed energy projects ranging from virtual power plants to community microgrids, to stand-alone storage, to EV fleet charging.
• Build and update financial models based on primary research of new energy market legislation and regulation.
• Assist with project opportunity screening and due diligence.
• Draft investment memos for the senior management team on new project opportunities
• Assist with current client interactions.
• Maintain and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders (state and city-level government bodies, non-profit organizations, and research institutions).

The Ideal Candidate

• 2+ years of experience in finance, management consulting, or energy market roles.
• An understanding of business models in the distributed energy space.
• at least 2 years experience in financial modeling especially project finance modeling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
• Initiative and ability to work autonomously and be comfortable representing Scale in customer-facing situations.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
