WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Investment Analyst role is a three-year program.  After three years in the program, analysts have numerous career avenues including graduate business school, continuing their careers in asset management, or transitioning to buy-side investment firms, including hedge funds and private equity firms. The Investment Analyst is a member of TNC’s Office of Investments team. The Office of Investments team mission is to support the funding of TNC’s global conservation priorities by increasing the organization’s purchasing power through prudent and sustainable investment management. The Office of Investments team, under the leadership of TNC’s Chief Investment Officer, works on all aspects of the management and monitoring of the endowment and other long-term pools of capital in excess of $4B. The Nature Conservancy’s investment assets are used to support TNC’s global operations and most pressing conservation projects.

The Investment Analyst will work with other members of the Office of Investments to assist in the screening, evaluation, and due diligence of potential investment opportunities as well as the monitoring of the Endowment’s multi-billion-dollar portfolio of external investment managers. Duties will include analysing investment managers’ philosophies, processes, and performance. The position provides the opportunity to gain in-depth exposure to public and private investment strategies and institutional portfolio management. In addition, the Investment Analyst will support and perform various operational responsibilities with oversight from the Director of Investment Administration and Investment Operations Manager. The Investment Analyst will report directly to the Chief of Staff, Office of Investments.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Contribute to asset allocation, manager selection, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Participate in sourcing new managers by performing database screens, reviewing materials from prospective managers, and interfacing with market intermediaries.
  • Assist with investment due diligence by participating in calls and meetings and performing qualitative and quantitative research on managers.
  • Prepare materials for meetings with current and prospective managers.
  • Assist in preparation of investment recommendations for presentation to the Investment Committee.
  • Review managersʹ investment reports and letters and proactively monitor markets for potential portfolio or manager implications.
  • Gather attribution characteristics and perform analytics for assigned asset classes and/or portfolios.
  • Record cash flow transactions including capital calls, distributions, management fee and other cash flow activities.
  • Monitor incoming communications from external managers in the central investment inbox and initiate proper workflows to process action items.
  • Collaborate with operations team on database and reporting projects.
  • Partner with senior team members, including the Chief Investment Officer, on ad hoc projects.
  • Evaluate alignment of portfolio with TNC’s organizational mission, including the analysis of ESG and Impact investments.
  • Attend relevant annual meetings and/or industry conferences as needed.
  • Travel as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Exposure to investment principles, investment strategies, and financial modeling.
  • Experience being a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience being detail-orientated and dedicated to high-quality work product.
  • Experience with writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Up to 3 years’ professional experience, preferably in a banking, institutional investing, or analytical finance role.
  • Affinity for The Nature’s Conservancy’s mission in supporting global land and water conservation efforts.
  • Experience in manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data. 
  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Progress towards CFA charter or willingness to pursue CFA charter a positive. 
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
