What you will be doing at Generate Capital as a Senior Associate, Structured Investments & Tax Equity:

  • Work as an integral part of the Investment team by supporting project and portfolio valuations and transactions that employ third-party capital such as tax equity and debt
  • Build and oversee financial models to perform comparison and financial valuation analyses on potential capital structure optimization initiatives
  • Work closely with the other investment team members in evaluating finance-able deals and in developing competitive bid pricing and/or underwriting based on optimization of capital sources
  • Support deal execution for debt, tax equity and project equity structures that allow the company to finance assets and portfolios most efficiently
  • Model capital accounts and have strong familiarity with sale leasebacks, partnership flip, inverted lease and other tax equity structures
  • Serve as investment team point in partnership with Generate’s Capital Markets team on originating, negotiating, and closing of tax equity and project finance transactions, including evaluating competition financing proposals
  • Management of external diligence processes
  • Ongoing management of project and portfolio additions to tax equity and debt facilities
  • Prepare sell-side materials detailing portfolio characteristics and sensitivities to secure third party investment
  • Prepare materials for use in Generate’s internal decision making and investment committee process
  • Partner cross-functionally with our deal, asset management, and financial operations teams to drive efficiencies and optimize tactics as it relates to third-party capital
  • Keep up with relevant industry and market trends and information

     

     

    Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

    • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
    • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent work experience, with an outstanding academic record 
    • 3-6 years of relevant industry experience with financial modeling (e.g. project finance, investment banking, leveraged finance, M&A, private equity, previous experience with tax equity required)
    • Power or renewable energy industry experience is required
    • Strong analytical / quantitative and technical abilities, including expert command over tax equity and project finance modeling concepts (e.g. capital accounts, deficit restoration obligations, partnership taxation, and HLBV accounting.)
    • Knowledge and familiarity of tax equity structures including sale leasebacks, partnership flip, and inverted lease
    • Understanding of tax equity documentation (i.e. LLCAs, ECCAs, and MIPAs) and customary investor reporting requirements.
    • Strong understanding of accounting and financial statements
    • Experience negotiating and closing complex financial agreements

Generate’s compensation packages are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Salary decisions take into account a wide variety of factors including, but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000. In addition, the compensation package may include a discretionary bonus and other benefits, including health care benefits, retirement benefits, benefits permitting paid days off (including sick leave, parental leave, and paid time off or vacation benefits), and other benefits that must be reported for federal tax purposes. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of this range.
