As the Head of Finance & Strategy at Plantd, you will work directly with the leadership team to shape the company’s financial strategy and operational plan as we aim to disrupt the construction industry. You will develop a comprehensive picture of how agriculture, manufacturing, and sales interconnect in order to commercialize and scale modern, carbon-negative materials and bring Plantd’s vision of sustainable building materials to life. 

Day-to-day, you will work at Plantd’s headquarters and production facility alongside our company founders. You will lead financial modeling, planning, and strategy for the business. You will engage with investors, and prepare the company for future funding. This is a hands-on role for a finance professional who is a self-starter and excited to join an early-stage, high-growth startup to build the finance and strategy function from the ground up. As the company grows, you will also have the opportunity to build and lead the finance and strategy team.

Construction or industry experience is not required. We look for smart, motivated, collaborative problems who love solving problems and want to make an impact on the world. 

ABOUT OUR COMPANY

Plantd was founded under the belief that wood does not need to come from trees and that ensuring the future of our civilization will require carbon-negative materials to reverse the level of atmospheric carbon present today and sustain life, as we know it, on our planet.

Starting with the homebuilding industry, our engineering team from SpaceX is leading a paradigm shift to materials made from renewable grass and building the low-carbon factory of the future to ensure atmospheric carbon captured in the field is locked away inside walls, floors, and roofs of new homes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, maintain, and own the financial model across all functions of the business, including:
• Proforma P&Ls
• KPI Dashboards
• Pricing models & sales forecast
• Cost planning and modeling in collaboration with engineering and agronomy teams
• Conduct financial planning & analysis to drive near and long-term strategic planning
• Identify actionable insights, key opportunities, and financial risks to the business
• Perform market research on industry trends, competitors, and macroeconomic conditions
• Own pricing models and support the development of sales forecasts
• Contribute to pitch decks and other company introductory materials
• Manage company data rooms and diligence requests during fundraising
• Ad hoc projects and analysis as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field, MBA preferred
• 5+ years experience in finance, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, or consulting
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, in particular, Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
• Proficient with Google Workspace, Quickbooks, and Airtable
• Independent, self-motivated critical thinker with ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working for a startup also preferred

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Remote to start, but must be willing to relocate to Durham, NC.
