The Opportunity and Position Summary

Rewiring America continues to grow. With a clear and inspiring vision, smart strategies and significant and sustained financial support, we are seeking an entrepreneurial Newsletters Editor to drive our organizational email content. This position reports to the Sr. Communications Director.

In this newly-created position, the Newsletters Editor is principally responsible for developing and executing creative compelling newsletter content for our diverse audiences. This content will be sourced from various teams across Rewiring America and ensure our email content is compelling, informative and exciting to both new and existing audiences.

The Newsletters Editor plays a pivotal role in creating engagement across our constituencies, building knowledge and sharing our electrifying work and content with the world.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Work with the Head of Communications, Audience Director, Project Manager and and the larger Rewiring America team to plan, write, edit and implement the organization’s email content.
  • Write, edit and implement emails that capture Rewiring America’s unique voice in the climate conversation. Do so with a creative spark and innovative approach across various email audiences and campaigns.
  • Engage and inspire all of our email audiences with meaningful content strategy founded on good channel management, measurement and best practices. Have fun doing it with personality.
  • Coordinate with designers to create, design and manage various CTAs and email templates.
  • Work with the Rewiring America team to support the segmentation and optimization of email lists based on behaviors like email engagement and website interaction to further engage key audiences.
  • Share knowledge and email tips with our entire organization, from cool content to important findings that everyone on our Slack should know about.
  • Work very closely with our communications team to create a unified voice, as well as share messaging and creative ideas.

The Newsletters Editor plays a critical role in the evolution of Rewiring America and joins a fast-paced team that operates with a sense of urgency and a track record of success in science, technology, business, policy and politics. The ideal candidate must be able to engage and light up our email channels — we don’t fill inboxes without a good reason. We’re looking for someone who can see what will be important to our audiences, and build thoughtful and fun communications accordingly. You also understand the journey, and are the kind of person who loves the Choose-Your-Own-Adventureness of email content.

The selected candidate will also possess the following Core and Preferred qualifications:

 

Core

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to strategize on both high-level content initiatives and day-to-day email engagement.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant email engagement best practices.
  • Keen understanding of email flows.
  • Serious insight into what is most important to audiences in our sector.
  • Ability to translate organizational values and voice across email.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines, with attention to detail for everything related to email.
  • Flexibility and creative adaptability.
  • Ability to make complicated ideas fun and shareable.
  • At least 2+ years of experience writing email campaigns for multiple stakeholders.
  • Available public writing samples to understand how you’ve communicated with others.
  • Experience with email service provider platforms and email automation tools.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Agency or non-profit experience.
  • Content knowledge in climate, renewable energy and/or building electrification.
  • Basic HTML knowledge to troubleshoot email code.
  • Bonus: basic fluency in design programs and ability to generate graphics in a pinch.
  • Enthusiasm for discussing your favorite sandwich.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience. Rewiring America also offers a very generous and competitive benefits package, including health coverage, retirement benefits, paid vacation, sick time and holidays and access to professional development resources.
