Offstream is looking for a talented Full Stack Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The ideal candidate would have significant experience with front end development OR backend + infra work, but the role will include working across the entire stack as needed. As our first engineering hire, you will have the opportunity to make a huge impact by building our product from the ground up.
About Offstream
Offstream's mission is to enable gigaton scale carbon removal by building the tools clean tech project developers use to stay compliant and maximize revenue for their operations. We work with clean tech developers globally to simplify the complex web of compliance across IRA tax credit requirements, voluntary carbon market standards, local, state, and federal regulations, and carbon credit buyer purchase demands. The market for low-carbon projects is rapidly growing with $500B+ IRA incentives from the US, purchase commitments made by large corporate buyers, and the growing climate crisis. Offstream enables the launch and scale-up of projects that are critical to net zero.

The Team
Our values:
At Offstream we care deeply about building a successful business that makes a meaningful dent in the climate crisis.
We have 3 words to describe our culture that we work very hard to maintain:
- Transparency - Work should never be a place where you have to wonder about the success of the company, or the value of the contributions of you as an employee
- Support - Working at a startup is full of brand new challenges and nearly unlimited ways to grow a career. We know that some days things can feel hard or unfamiliar, but we are here to support each other through the highs and lows of being at an early stage company
- Growth - we know it’s highly unlikely Offstream is the last company you will ever work for. Whether you are with us for a few years or a decade, you will be challenged to grow in your roles and careers tenure at Offstream. The nature of being at an early stage startup necessarily demands that team members will step outside of their specific role or comfort zones from time to time, and we aim to harness that necessity to help all team members grow.
What it’s like to work as an engineer at Offstream
- We work in two week sprints and use all of the standard tooling (git, asana, slack etc…)
- We have a culture of blameless incidents. No engineer is perfect. Sometimes mistakes are made, bugs go into production, and users experience crashes. Rather than pointing fingers, we fix mistakes, and then strive to build processes that prevent similar errors from cropping up in the future
- We believe that applying steady effort over a long period of time will result in incredible progress
- We are always looking to improve. If you have ideas from prior experience, or new processes you’ve been wanting to try, we are always happy to hear them to make the team more efficient or effective
The Details
The interview process
- Intro call with Zach. This will be a chance to do two things
- Introduce yourself and talk about your past experiences as an engineer
- Learn about Offstream in more detail - the mission and goals of the company, and some more detailed info on the tech stack + upcoming projects and work, along with the opportunity to ask questions about anything you would like to know in advance of going through the interview process and eventually joining the team
- 1st technical interview - This will be a “pure” technical interview in that you will be on a zoom call with Zach and be presented with a technical problem and asked to code a solution. The question(s) are meant to look like real work that you would run into while working at Offstream (i.e. no “detect if you have a circular linked list”, or “find the shortest point between two nodes in a graph”)
- 2nd technical interview - Depending on your particular background this will either be a front end focused task where you will do a live React coding exercise, OR a system architecture + data modeling interview where we will discuss various ways to craft an API and database schema
- Team interview - This will be with Zach and Varsha where you will talk about your background, professional experience, and motivations for joining an early-stage climate tech startup.
What we offer
- Competitive salary and equity ($100k-170k depending on experience and qualifications + a meaningful equity stake)
- A full suite of benefits
- Unlimited PTO with a minimum of 2 weeks off per year + all federal holidays and a company shut down for the week between Christmas and New Years
