About the job

We are seeking a Head of Operations with a visionary mindset and a builder's spirit to join Earthbond's leadership. This role is for a strategic thought partner to the CEO, able to see beyond the horizon and prepared to get hands-on in shaping the future of renewable energy in Africa. You will be instrumental in operationalizing our vision, driving growth, and leading our team through the dynamic challenges of scaling an impactful enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Shape and execute the company's operational strategy, ensuring alignment with our long-term vision and market dynamics.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and scalability of processes. Drive the integration of new technologies for operational improvement and product development.
  • Team Development: Build and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, resilience, and growth. Identify talent needs and lead recruitment efforts to support Earthbond's expansion.
  • Sales and Market Expansion: Lead efforts to expand our market footprint, developing and executing a robust go-to-market strategy that amplifies Earthbond's value proposition. In the first 6-12 months, you can expect to directly have to spearhead sales initiatives by engaging with potential customers and closing deals, demonstrating the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in the market. In this capacity/during the first year, you will actively participate in customer acquisition and retention, setting an example for the sales team and ensuring the company's growth targets are met through personal involvement in sales activities.
  • Product Innovation: Collaborate with the product team to refine/evolve our offerings, ensuring they meet the changing needs of customers and stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Financial Oversight: Work alongside the CEO to manage financial planning, investment strategies, and revenue generation models. Ensure sustainability and optimize operational costs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key representative of Earthbond to investors, partners, and the broader ecosystem, building relationships that support our mission and growth.

About you

  • A visionary leader with a passion for sustainability and innovation in the energy sector/a commitment to Earthbond's mission of driving sustainable energy solutions across Africa
  • Extensive experience working with African SMEs & MSMEs in a “hands-on” capacity.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a data-driven and analytical approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading and motivating teams.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.
  • Highly adaptable and resilient, able to navigate complex challenges and drive results.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a management role, preferably within the renewable energy sector, high-growth startup environment in emerging markets, or strategy consulting background.
  • Strong operational background, with a track record of scaling operations and achieving significant business milestones.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with experience building or significantly growing a startup.
  • Deep understanding of the renewable energy market, business models, and technology.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of inspiring teams and forging partnerships.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to make data-driven decisions and adapt to changing environments.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in operations, business development, or a related field e.g., consulting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an early and/or growth stage startup.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, operational efficiency, and team leadership in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong understanding of the African energy market, particularly renewable energy, and its regulatory landscape.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly in solar energy.
  • Strong network within the African business and energy ecosystem.
  • Previous experience in a startup or experience scaling a business.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling, fundraising, and investor relations.
  • Track record of implementing technology solutions in operations to drive efficiency.
